Kids Dance Steps

When I was little I thought someday I would not be afraid. I would try new things with great anticipation and bravery. I would not be afraid of bad dreams, critical words or losing treasured belongings. Then I would be grown-up. What a sad day when I realized that I was grown-up and I was still scared. (Maybe even more!) The more I choose to think, feel and plan big things for my life, the more fear is my constant companion. What to do? Here are a three steps that have helped me face my fear.

Understand it.

The root of all fear is the fear that we cannot handle what happens to us. “If I am rejected I will just fall apart!” “If I fail I will never do anything again.” The truth is that when we look back at our lives bad things have already happened! We have been rejected, failed and have experienced loss but we have dealt with it and survived. It is the anticipation of what might happen that stops us not the actual negative event! I love this quote by Mark Twain,“I have lived a long life and had many troubles, most of which never happened.”

Expect it.

It is easy to begin avoiding fear by living small, never taking risk, and refusing to dream. What a boring life! Deep inside we all know that we can be and create so much more. When we choose to take the risk of dreaming big and creating amazing lives we will feel fear! The first time I taught a workshop I was shaking scared. By the second class I could breath and pass out handouts with out dropping them from my still-shaking hands. By the third class I was beginning to enjoy leading it. That is the story of fear. When we try something new we will be afraid! Expect it, take fear by the hand and say, “Come on let's go do something new!”.

Kids Dances

If you secretly sashay across your living room when you're home alone or long to cha-cha with your significant other, you're in luck. Not only is dancing an exceptional way to let loose and have fun, but it also provides some terrific benefits for your health.

In fact, Mayo Clinic researchers reported that social dancing helps to: Reduce stress Increase energy Improve strength Increase muscle tone and coordination

And whether you like to kick up your heals to hip hop, classical or country, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) says that dancing can: Lower your risk of coronary heart disease Decrease blood pressure Help you manage your weight Strengthen the bones of your legs and hips

Dancing is a unique form of exercise because it provides the heart-healthy benefits of an aerobic exercise while also allowing you to engage in a social activity. This is especially stimulating to the mind, and one 21-year study published in the New England Journal of Medicine even found dancing can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia in the elderly.

In the study, participants over the age of 75 who engaged in reading, dancing and playing musical instruments and board games once a week had a 7 percent lower risk of dementia compared to those who did not. Those who engaged in these activities at least 11 days a month had a 63 percent lower risk!

Kids Salsa Dance

The word “salsa” in Spanish means sauce. Salsa dancing is also known as slot dancing because couples don’t move around a large area of the dance floor; instead they stay in a more fixed or smaller area of the floor. So are you ready to learn Salsa dancing?

The salsa has an eight beat pattern that is made up of two bars of four beats. The Salsa music is usually complicated and fast with around 180 beats per minute. The salsa pattern is generally one of three steps and then a skipped step or a tap on the fourth beat.

The basic step is as follows: On counts 1, 2, and 3 the leader steps forward, then you replace the weight to your previous support foot keeping it in place, and then step backward. On counts 5, 6, and 7 you step backwards, then you replace the weight to your previous support foot keeping it in place, and then step forward again.

The follower does exactly the same steps but in the reverse order. The basic step is the basis for many of the other salsa patterns.

Some of the breaks to the basic step are:

1. Side Break – You start from either foot and step sideways; then you replace the weight to your previous support foot, keeping it in place.

2. Back Break - You start from either foot and step backwards; then you replace the weight to your previous support foot, keeping it in place.

3. Forward Break - You start from either foot and step forward; then you replace the weight to your previous support foot, keeping it in place.

Kids Jazz Dance

Jazz wear has begun to take on a “less is more” type of trend. Full-length jazz pants and even capri pants are not as “in” as they used to be. “Booty shorts”, or “hot pants” as some may call them, are taking over in the world of jazz. It only makes sense to wear less clothing while dancing and getting sweaty. Dancers everywhere are wearing these short, tight shorts and pairing them with tops that are just as fitted.

Halter Tops

Halter tops have become very big in jazz wear. They are cute and stylish and also very good for bustline support. To make these tops even more stylish, rouching has become very popular on dance tops. All of the rouching and halter tops are beginning to make jazz wear look more like normal, everyday clothing. This season, the popular color for tops is blue. It is a beautiful color that everyone can pull off and will be seen more in the dance studios this fall.

Crystals

Crystals are also a very big trend right now in jazz wear. There may be a few crystals spread out across a top or made to spell out dance. Crystals have even been done across the back of shorts or pants to spell out dance or other catchy, dance related words. Even “booty shorts” are being detailed with crystals along the sides or across the top.
